I grew up in a household immersed in the day to day language of city building since my father spent his days traversing the steel frames of Chicago’s emerging skyscrapers. Prior to my current profession in academia, my career was in commerical and residential real estate lending. This trajectory shaped the geographer I am today.
As an urban geographer I am interested in the morphology of places, and the networks of actors involved in fostering change in planning and implementation practices in U. S. cities.
As a human and cultural geographer I am interested in people’s interaction with the built environment, and more specifically, issues of community development and equity in housing and service provision.
The Twin Cities provides me with an excellent laboratory in which to apply a unique Midwest via Southern California perspective to the analysis of these, and a broad range of place and space interests.
