Graduate Programs

The Department of Geography offers three graduate degree programs:

The MA and PhD in geography are academic (research) degrees. Many students in the MA program continue into the PhD program. Most students in the PhD program PhD are preparing for academic careers.

The MGIS is a professional degree. It is considered a terminal degree—it does not lead to admission to our PhD program. The MGIS prepares students in the theoretical, technical, and applications aspects of geographic information science and for careers as GIS professionals and practitioners.
