GeoWall
GeoWall systems are affordable immersive visualization tools that allow scientists and students to view data in 3-D. More specifically, a GeoWall is a relatively simple stereo projection system that utilizes two digital light projectors (DLP), any computer with a dual head video card, light polarizing lenses for the projectors with matching polarized glasses, and a polarized light-preserving screen. The light from each projector is polarized through filters in opposite directions, creating 'right eye' and 'left eye' images, which are superimposed on one another. The glasses filter the images to the right and left eye. The brain then processes these slightly 'offset' images from each eye in a way that allows us to perceive depth, or 3-D.
We encourage faculty and students alike to use the Department of Geography’s GeoWall system for unique lectures and interesting student projects. MGIS students are highly encouraged to consider GeoWall’s 3-D visualization capabilities for course and Plan B projects.
